Capturing Scenic Landscapes

Getting closest to nature is what landscape photographic artistry is all about. Most landscape photographers prefer to use wide-angle lenses – 14 mm 21 mm ultra wide to 24 mm 35 mm wide angle lenses. Landscape photography most often uses wide angle lenses because this decreases the depth of field, giving a more focused view on the subject, and less of the background. Dramatic effects are achieved more using wide angle lenses.

Techniques To Use In Wide Angled Photographs
Choose the appropriate wide angle lenses for your photography style. Not all wide angle lenses are best in landscape photography. The right lens depends largely on how you want your landscape photographs to come out and what you need to infuse the images.

Basically, you need to compose your landscape photography well. The closer you get to the subject, the larger the subject will come out. This tends to make the image more effective and dramatic. Photography is not just about taking a picture. It is building the skills infusing an artistic touch. Taking a photo should be done with some eye for details to be able to capture better shots. In photography, there several fields of interest that a photographer may be engaged in such as portrait photography, landscape, nature, among others.

One of the most challenging fields is portraiture. In this type of photography, the common practise is the camera taking the shot at the subject’s eye level and may include the whole body directly at the viewing lens of the camera. Portraits can be tough because a person’s demeanour or expression can always change, from time to time. Give your portrait a plus factor by learning the basics and honing your photographic artistry skills and knowing what the camera can do to boost the images you want to create.

How To Create Good Portraits
1. Shallow Depth of Field – some lenses and the digital SLR can do the tricks in creating a shallow depth of field. This means that you keep the focus on the subject and nullifying the background. Cameras and lenses can boost your photograph by creating a more subject-focused image. Digital cameras come with bigger sensors which allow you to obtain a good shallow depth of field.

2. Make your portrait more interesting by changing the eye perspective of the subject. The eyes of the subject make a great impact on the image. There are angles that create a more dramatic effect on the portrait through the subject eyes. It is important that you use your creativity in composing the photo. The view of the camera doesn’t have to be straight to the eyes of the subject. You can shoot down from the ground or have your subject look at something that is interesting from his/her point of view. 

3. Colour is a very important element in an image. It would be nice to put some contrasts, between the subject and the background. The subject should at any time, come out more prominent than the background. Play with the colours very well, complementary would be more effective.

The back light can be used only to set the subject apart from the background.
